Overview

Taiwan ICDF Higher Education Scholarships are funded by the Taiwanese Government for students from Taiwan’s diplomatic allies and partner countries. The programme funds undergraduate, Masters, and PhD study at partner universities in Taiwan in fields aligned with development priorities. Around 100 to 150 scholarships per cycle. Open to African countries including Burkina Faso, eSwatini, and many other partner states. The 2027 cycle closes 15 March 2027.

  • Up to four years (undergraduate), two years (Masters), or four years (PhD) of funding.

Eligibility

  • Citizen of a Taiwan ICDF partner country. Eligible African countries include eSwatini, Burkina Faso (subject to diplomatic relations status at the time), and others. Check the source page for the current list.
  • Secondary school certificate (undergraduate), Bachelor’s degree (Masters), or Masters degree (PhD).
  • Strong academic record.
  • English or Chinese language proficiency (depending on the programme; many partner programmes are taught in English).
  • Aged under 25 (undergraduate), under 40 (Masters), or under 45 (PhD).
  • Not currently a Taiwan citizen or permanent resident.

How to apply

  1. Open the Taiwan ICDF scholarship page at the source link to confirm partner countries and partner-university programmes for the current cycle.
  2. Apply through the Taiwan Embassy or representative office in your home country (this is the official channel, not direct to ICDF).
  3. Submit the application package: academic transcripts, certificates, two references, statement of purpose, language test results, and the host-programme admission letter or expression of interest.
  4. Submit through your local Taiwan office by 15 March 2027.
  5. Shortlisted candidates are interviewed by the Embassy. Final scholars are confirmed in July or August 2027 for September 2027 entry.
