Clarendon Fund Scholarships 2027 (Oxford)

Overview

The Clarendon Fund is Oxford’s flagship postgraduate scholarship, funded by Oxford University Press royalties. Around 140 new Clarendon Scholars are selected each year across the full range of Oxford Masters and DPhil programmes. Open to applicants of any nationality and any postgraduate course. Unusually for prestigious scholarships, you cannot apply separately: the Clarendon assessment happens automatically when you submit your Oxford admission application by the published January deadline. The 2027 cycle closes 7 January 2027 for most courses.

Eligibility

• Citizen of any country.
• Applying for admission to a full-time, on-campus, postgraduate course at Oxford for September 2027 entry.
• Strong academic record at undergraduate level (first-class honours or equivalent for Masters applicants; commensurate record for DPhil).
• No separate application: every eligible applicant who submits an Oxford admission application by the early January deadline is automatically considered.
• Cannot already hold an Oxford DPhil.

How to apply

1. Open the Oxford Graduate Admissions portal and identify your target postgraduate course.
2. Submit the Oxford admission application (research statement, references, transcripts, course-specific requirements) by the early January deadline (most courses 7 January 2027; a few competitive courses use a December deadline, listed on each course page).
3. No additional Clarendon application: the Fund considers every eligible applicant who submits by the relevant January deadline.
4. Admission offers begin in February 2027. Clarendon offers are made to selected applicants between February and May 2027 alongside or shortly after the admission offer.
5. Accept your Clarendon offer when issued.
